Bishop David Oyedepo Has Been Barred From The UK?

Unconfirmed reports say that founder of the Living Faith church , Pastor David Oyedepo has been barred from entering the United Kingdom by The UK Home Office according to ThisIsAfrica sources. A source at the Muritala Mohammed International Airport revealed to the website that the barring of Oyedepo, who holds a ‘C’ Visa that allows him entry into the UK for ten years, was communicated to airlines via an ‘Airline Alert’ on Saturday, 9 August, 2014′. The alert stresses that any airline that flouts the ban is liable to a fine of £2000, the source said. It is not known for sure as at the time of writing what prompted the barring, but it may be connected to an inquiry by the UK Charitable Commission, which, according to Daily Mail and Guardian, accused Oyedepo’s Winners Chapel UK branch of ‘cynically exploiting worshippers’. The Daily Mail report revealed that Oyedepo’s Church ‘received £16.7 million in donations from followers who were told that God would give them riches in return’ and that ‘Followers are ferried in double-decker shuttle buses to the church, handed slips inviting them to make debit card payments, and are even told obeying the ministry’s teachings will make them immune from illness’.

26-year-old graduate stabs prostitute over N800 balance

Shola Egunle, a 26-year old polytechnic graduate, has been charged before an Ebute Metta Magistrate’s court sitting at oyingbo for allegedly stabbing a commercial sex worker. Egunle who resides at 17, Fdafunmi Street, Iyana Ipaja, is said to be a 2009 graduate of Banking and Finance from a private polytechnic in Lagos. He was alleged to have stabbed Joy Osasuwa, a commercial sex worker, with a knife on the breast and at the back at a 3 Star Hotel located at Otto Railway Crossing in Oyingbo area of Lagos on August 12, after he made love to her. The defendant is facing a count charge bordering on assault preferred against him by the police. Reports have it that the defendant had demanded a balance of N800 from the N1000 he gave the victim for her service. It was asserted that the defendant made the demand for the balance on the ground that he did not complete the act, adding that when the victim refused to comply with his demand, he decided to help himself, by beating the victim brutally before stabbing her on the breast and on her back with a kitchen knife he found in her apartment. Inspector A. U. Moses, the prosecutor, declared to the court that the offence is punishable under section 243 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos state of Nigeria, 2011. The defence counsel, Obi Simon, informed the court that both parties have agreed to settle the matter out of court and urged the court to grant the defendant bail in a most liberal term and adjourn for a very short date. Following the submission of the counsel to the defendant, Magistrate K. O Ogundare admitted the defendant to a bail at the sum of N200,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum. Ogundare also ordered that sureties must show evidence of three years tax payable to Lagos State government, means of livelihood and have their addresses verified by the prosecutor. The matter was adjourned till September 24.

Ebola scare: Customs intercepts, destroys truckload of monkey meat

The Nigerian Custom Service, Kaduna and Kastina commands has intercepted and destroyed a truck loaded with dried bush meat suspected to be monkey’s smuggled into the country by an unknown person. Speaking when he led others to set the seized meat ablaze, Customs Comptroller of the Federal Operations Unit (FOU, Zone B), Maina Tijjani Suleiman said the truck was confiscated Thursday morning at the Katsina border. Suleiman said the truck contained 351 bags of bush meat and that each of the bags weighed 100Kg, stressing that the seized meat may have come from Libya. He insisted that the seizure was necessary in view of the current challenge of the dreaded Ebola disease, noting that had the meat made its way to Nigerian markets, “only God will tell the extent of damage it may cause.” “The driver abandoned the vehicle and ran away after he was chased by our men. But then, some hoodlums attempted to attack our men and it took the reinforcement of operatives before the truck was retrieved.” In a speech, the Katsina State Commissioner of health, Mannir Talba, lauded operatives of Nigerian customs for the seizure. He said it was the needed step in the collective resolve to prevent the spread of Ebola.
