Members of the
executives of the Student's Union Government(SUG) Nnamdi Azikiwe University,
Awka have disowned the Students’ Union President of the institution Mr Noble
Eyisi for circulating inciting press release against the Vice Chancellor of the
university, Prof Joe Ahaneku.
Speaking with our
correspondent during a visit to the PRO of the institution, Dr Emma Ojukwu, the
members of the executives of the union said the press release which among other
things indicted the Vice Chancellor was a concoction of the president.
The Vice President of
the Union and its public relations officer, Precious Uzems and Martin-Beck
Nworah respectively stated that the president has for a long time been working
at variance with the members of the executive, the reason the executives served
him an impeachment notice two weeks ago.
“He does not carry
anyone along, and each time we have a meeting we stay here and wait for him for
a long time but he will never show up and the next thing we will hear is that
he has issued one press release or the other in our name.” The union’s
executives lamented.
The PRO of the
university Dr Ojukwu on the other hand attributed Eyisi’s conduct to the
actions of some aggrieved members of staff of the institution who are using the
SUG president to get at the Vice Chancellor of the institution Prof Joseph
Ahaneku.
Ojukwu said since the
Vice Chancellorship contest of last year which was hotly contested, some people
who lost out have been working hard to discredit his administration and some
members of staff who have also been sanctions for one ill doing or the other
have all joined in to incite the SUG against the Vice Chancellor and may have
succeeded in wooing the SUG president Over as a willing tool.
He dismissed the
allegations by the SUG president, which bothered on increment in the post UTME
fee which was raised from N1,000 to N2000 and the introduction of N7,500 for
biometric capture for the students as mere attempts to discredit the Vice
Chancellor.
Ojukwu said the SUG
president has compromised leading to his being used by dissidents to fight the
schools management but what was heart warming is that his fellow students have
abandoned him on the voyage he has chosen.
