Anambra State governor, Chief Willie Obiano has stated that one year after he was sworn to office as the governor of the state, his government is still focused and on course to deliver democracy dividends to the people, just as he have not shifted from the campaign promises it made to the people of the state.
The governor
yesterday rolled out the drums to celebrate his first year in office, with a
huge crowd in attendance at the Ekwueme Square venue of the celebration which
also had several dignitaries from the state in attendance.
Delivering his anniversary speech which was tagged ‘A
Bounteous Harvest, Promising Tomorrow’, Obiano said, “Looking back, ladies and gentlemen, before our ship set sail in
March last year, we dreamt of a New Anambra State … A state that would become the
1st Choice Investment Destination and a hub for industrialization
and commercial activities…a socially stable, business friendly environment that
would attract both indigenes and foreigners to seek wealth-creating
opportunities. Ndi Anambra, to the glory of God, today, 365 days after, our dream
is almost fully realized.”
Reeling out
some of his achievement in the last one year, Obiano said his government has
attracted over $2billion from 16 investors, making the state the number one
destination in the country for investors wishing to put their money in places
where returns will be high.
He also
added that his government has attracted $600,000 to the state agricultural
sector and that when fully in motion, theb state would be equipped to produce
at least 300,000 metric tonms of rice, 200,000 metric tons of tomato and
150,000 metric tons of cassava, making it the most food sufficient state in
Nigeria.
Speaking on
security, Obiano said his government has chased out armed robbers and
kidnappers from the state, while cutting their weapon supply lines as well as
mowed down buildings which they erected using proceeds of such illegal businesses.
He assured
Anamabra people that he will not abandon any of his predecessor, Mr Peter Obi’s
Project as he had promised that his mission was to continue, complete and
commission all projects left behind by him. He thanked Obi who though was not
present at the ceremony for laying the foundation on which he is today building
a new Anambra.
Obiano
listed the four pillars of his administration as Agriculture, Trade and Commerce,
Industrialisation and Oil and Gas, opon which he said has other enablers that
will help in the development of the state.
Homily was
earlier said by top clergymen in the state which was preceded by prayers for
the governor. Bishop David Eberechukwu who said the sermon assured Obaino that
he will serve out his ternure and even win a second tem if he continues with
his steps and lets God direct him in governance.

The ceremony was
attended by several dignitaries from all walks of life including Billionare oil
mogul, Prince Arthur Eze, Chief Emeka Anyaoku and former governor, Dame Virgy
Etiaba.
