Senator elect for Anambra Central
Senatorial Zone, Mrs. Uche Ekwunife has condoled with the families of those
that lost their lives in Sunday tanker fire incident at the Upper Iweka axis in
the commercial city of Onitsha, describing it as a national calamity.
Mrs. Ekwunife who cut short
her official engagement to inspect the carnage at Upper Iweke expressed sadness
over the loss of lives and property and condoled with the families that lost
their loved ones in the ugly incident.
The Senator elect whose zone
falls within part of the scenes of the incident promised to effect proper
legislation that would put an end to unnecessary loss of lives and property on
the highways by lorry and heavy duty vehicles.
“It is unfortunate that we continue
to lose our loved ones in such careless and difficult situations. I want to
express my deepest condolence to the families that lost their loved ones in the
ugly incident and pray for the repose of souls of the deceased. I promise to
make legislation alongside my fellow senators that would put an end to such
horrible incidents on Nigerian roads.
In a related development, Mrs.
Ekwunife congratulated the Editor-In-Chief and Managing Director of The Sun
Publishing Limited, Mr. Femi Adesina on his appointment as the Special Adviser
on Media and Publicity to President Muhammadu Buhari.
Mrs. Ekwunife in a statement signed
by her Special Assistant on Media, Emmanuel Uzor described Mr. Adesina as a
true face of journalism that is anchored on truth and fairness.
She expressed optimism that Mr.
Adesina would replicate his Midas touch in The Sun Newspaper in his new office
and wished him well in his new office as Presidential Spokesman.
Part of the release reads, “Femi
Adesina is a man with courage and conscience to work. He has been a noble media
man whose love for the unity of the country has remained total and I on behalf
of the people of Anambra central senatorial zone wish to congratulate him and
the entire Sun family for this elevation and wish him well”.
