Obiano Appoints, Swears in 21 for LG Transition Chairmanship Amidst Parties Protest

Despite protests by members of the Inter Party Advisory Council(IPAC), which consists of over 30 political parties in the state, Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano has appointed 21 persons as transition committee chairmen of the 21 local government areas of the state.

The nominees for chairmanship position and their councillors were Wednesday confirmed by the Anambra State Assembly in Awka during plenary session as transition committee chairmen for the 21 local government areas.

Recall that the IPAC had a month ago called for the immediate conduct of local government election, against plan by the governor to appoint transition committee chairmen, saying it was not democratic.

But the Speaker of Anambra House of Assembly, Rt Hon Rita Maduagwu during plenary announced that
the state governor, Dr Willie Obiano had on Thursday,  March 23rd submitted a list of nominees  to it.

She added that the committees will serve for a renewable three months tenure, pending the conduct of lo al government election in the state.
