What Obiano said about his closeness to Buhari

The Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano says President Muhammadu Buhari would create an additional state in the South-East geopolitical zone if he returned as president of the country.
The governor stated this when  the leadership of  Ohaneze Ndigbo, Lagos Branch paid him a  visit at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, Anambra State.
He said, "I'm in good  terms with the President. He has good plans for the South-East, contrary to the perception of some people. He has emotional feeling that the  South-East ought to have an additional state.
"I'm also hopeful that the federal government would set aside November 16 as a national day in  memory of the late Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, the first president of this great country."
The governor insisted that it was wrong for Ohanaeze Ndigbo to have   fixed a meeting on a day  President Buhari was in the state to commission a mausoleum in honor of the late Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe who,  the governor said  remained a world hero of of the Igbo.
Obiano urged the body to echew politics in its dealing and rather maintain neutrality, which he said was part of the objective for setting up the group as a nonpartisan organisation with the principal aim of pushing for Igbo agenda.
Speaking, the  Ohanaeze  delegation led by its branch president, Nnamdi Nwigwe said they were in the state to show solidarity to the Obiano-led government.
The group extolled  what it called Obiano’s negotiating power; think- home philosophy, among other initiatives.
He said, "We are particularly happy with your position on appreciating President Mohammadu Buhari-led administration’s good gestures to the people of the South-East region and Anambra State in particular.
"The completion of  Zik Mausoleum which is a national monument, the ongoing second Niger bridge, road projects and other infrastructures lay credence to the fact that the Buhari administration has not forgotten the region", the Igbo group stated.

We'll give votes to highest bidder - aggrieved APGA ward chairmen threaten

Scores of aggrieved ward chairmen of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA in Anambra State on Tuesday staged a protest against the party.
They threatened to mobilised forces against the party in the this month's general elections if nothing was done to assuage them within one week.
The chairmen said that rather than vote for APGA, it would rather vote for any party that negotiates with them , because it already feels disenchanted about the party.
Speaking through their leader, Mr Nzeakor Onyeaka, the group said they had not been carried along by the APGA government in Anambra State since 2015.
They enjoined the state governor, Willie Obiano, to address the issue or they would work with the opposition in the state and bring down APGA in the poll
The group, which claimed that it had no fewer than 1600 members across the 326 wards in the state alleged that its members were denied appointments by the APGA government.
"We're hungry. Our members suffered to sustain APGA in the state, yet we were not remembered in any way.
"Our protest today is to show that we are human, capable to pick offence. What we are telling the world today is that we are hungry; and that were open to be hired by the opposition in this election to work against APGA.
"This is not how political parties should be run. You don't impoverish soldiers you intend to go to war with and expect success in such war.
"If after a week, the governor does not address our problem we shall mobilise forces to vote against APGA in this election ", the group stated.

Obi Confident of More Endorsements, Says Anyone Satisfied With Buhari's Performance is not Human

Basking in the recent endorsement of the presidential candidate of the People Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and himself as the running mate, by some apex zonal socio-cultural organizations, Mr Peter Obi has said that only those who do not wish Nigeria well would not endorse the PDP.

Obi who was in Anambra for a road show around various cities in the state said recent development has shown that the present government does not have the capacity to govern Nigeria, just as she has moved to the lowest ebb in all rankings among countries of the world.

Obi who spoke on the recent endorsement of the PDP candidates by Afenifere, Ohanaeze, PANDEF and other groups said there are indications that even more groups will endorse his candidate and himself in coming days before the election.

“The endorsement is all over now. They are doing it because everyone is seeing the reality. People have seen that the present government doesn’t have the capacity to govern Nigeria. More endorsement will come, because people are not happy with this government. Even you journalists, you are not happy, and I can see it from your faces.

“You too should be a part of this endorsement. We have a country that is collapsing, and it is up to Nigerians to know who to choose. If you think what you are getting in the last three years is okay, then you remain where you are, but I know it is not okay. Our country is now worse.

“The condition of Nigeria should worry everyone. We have a record insecurity, we have moved from number seven to number three. After Afghanistan, it is Iraq and we are the number three, so it should worry all Nigerians. We now have the highest number of poor people living on the surface of the earth in Nigeria and it should worry all Nigerians.”

Speaking on what he would do differently if elected to Power, Obi said what he did in Anambra was enough for anyone to know what he would do. He insisted that the present government has failed, and that anyone who was happy with the Buhari led government was not a human being.

He charged the people to come out enmasse and vote for a change of government, saying that the people are more important than INEC in deciding the credibility of the forthcoming elections.

“Is not about INEC, it is about the people. If the people say yes to a change of government, definitely they will get it. I have contested election here in Anambra before, INEC did not give it to me, but because the people were behind me, I was able to get it.”

How We Rescued 16-year-Old Girl Married to 56-year old man

A 16 years old girl from Ihiala in Ihiala Local government area of Anambra State, Miss Chinwe who was married off by her family to a 56-years-old man, Igwilo, has been rescued.

Mr Harrison Gwamnishu, the coordinator of Behind Bars Rights Foundation, a human rights Group disclosed this to DAILY POST on Sunday, saying his group championed the release of the girl by her in-laws from Ozubulu.

An amateur video footage of a traditional marriage ceremony of the girl to her 56 years old husband  had on 28 January surfaced on Facebook, and had been condemned by all.

Elekenews.com gathered that the 16-year-old girl, who is a single mother had been married off by her poor parents to the 56 year old man, Izuchukwu Igwilo, who was said to be either mentally unstable or suffering from down syndrome, but from a wealthy family.

Sources in Ozubulu, the hometown of the Igwilos showed that the family(Igwilo) who were mostly rich business men had arranged the marriage to help build a home for their brother, Izuchukwu.

Gwamnishu who pioneered the release of the girl from her husband said, “Our group heard of the marriage on Facebook, on 28 January, and we thought it wasn’t right. We moved from Delta State where we are based to Ozubulu, but the entire marriage seemed shrouded in secrecy.

“The Igwilo family were not willing to speak, nor were the members of the community. We however gathered that the Igwilo family were very rich and wanted to use the girl to settle their brother, and that the girl was from Ihiala. Since our interest is not the man, we moved to Ihiala where we met the parents. They were not cooperative.

“The father asked us what our interest in her daughter was, saying that she had married her daughter off to a family that would be able to take of her, and that we had no reason to begin to meddle in family affair.”

Gwamnishu said after being satisfied that the marriage actually took place, the group went back home and petitioned the police.

He stated that the girl had on Saturday night been rescued at last, and through the help of his organization the girl has been handed over to Mrs Ndidi Mezue, Anambra State Commissioner for Ministry of Women and Children Affairs.

Mezue however could not react to the handing over of the girl to her, as attempts to reach her on phone failed repeatedly.

But a press release from her office sent to Elekenews.com read, “The Anambra State Ministry of Women and Children Affairs wishes to inform the public that it has received a complaint about an alleged underage marriage involving a girl from Ihiala that is married to a man from Ozubulu.

The ministry is following up on this case as it continues to collaborate with several persons and organisations including security agencies towards quick resolution. The ministry is in contact with the girl’s family, Anambra Police and other interested parties in the matter including human rights activists.”

Why Igbos Must Vote Atiku - Obaze

The Chairman, Anambra State Chapter of Atiku-Obi Presidential Campaign Council, Mr. Oseloka Obaze, has called on Ndigbo to come out en masse and vote for the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the February 16 polls.
Obaze, the erstwhile candidate of the party in the Anambra 2017 governorship election, made the call in Awka over the weekend.

According to him, “cogent reasons exist for Ndigbo to come out en masse and vote for PDP’s Atiku-Obi.”
He said any vote for Atiku Abubakar is also a vote for Peter Obi, who would be saddled with managing the economic responsibilities of the country.
Obaze noted that Igbo, who, according to him, are predominantly business-minded people, and Nigerians in general, stand to benefit maximally from topnotch conceptual and empirical knowledge the Atiku/Obi team offers.
He said Atiku has executive democratic and political experience, just like his running mate, Peter Obi who he described as “a working and resourceful match. With the duo in office, Igbos and Nigerians will rejoice and relish a new political and economic paradigm.”
On the issue of succession, which has become a major campaign talking point, Obaze said over 40 million Igbo people cannot afford to wait for another 4 years to realize the “so called” promise of being handed over to by the APC Government.
“Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and Babatunde Fashola, both potential 2023 presidential candidates, have said publicly and without any apologies that President Buhari will hand over to the Southwest in 2023. Their permutation does not feature Ndigbo.”
He encouraged Ndigbo to vote PDP in order to have Peter Obi in Aso Rock, since his being the Vice President will provide emotional and spiritual exhilaration for the Igbo people who feel excluded, neglected and marginalized in Nigeria.
“Beyond deploying his reach and office to chart a new vision and mission for the Igbo and Nigerians, Peter Obi also fits well into the bill of strategic succession planning.”

“Moreover, Atiku is a son-in-law of the Igbo people, by virtue of one of his wives from Onitsha. He is an Igbo son by our customary law of marriage and he has chosen our natural son, Peter Obi as his running mate — this is a double chance, if not obligatory reason for the Igbo people to vote for PDP.”
Obaze acknowledged that Atiku being human, has his shortcomings, just like anyone or other presidential candidates, but noted that Nigeria will be far better off with Atiku-Obi than what currently obtains.

ADC Condemns Obiano for Supporting Buhari

The African Democratic Congress, ADC has condemned the Anambra State governor, Governor Willie Obiano for supporting the reelection of President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The national chairman of the party, Mr Okey Nwosu spoke to journalists in Awka while presenting flag of the party to the senatorial candidate for Anambra Central zone, Mr Tony Ezekwelu.

Nwosu said Obiano was supporting  President  Buhari against the wishes of the people of Anambra State, as the people are aversed to the style of leadership offered by the president.

He queried, "What are they supporting? Another four years of destruction and divisive government? We are ashamed of this kind of support.

"How can the people we elected to represent us be supporting a totalitarian government? I urge everyone to go out and vote out the Buhari government, 100 percent.

"They are supporting the same man who hates Igbos, and who has refused to appoint an Igbo man into the security council of this country. He has rejected Igbos in totality."

Nwosu said the forthcoming election would be a referendum, and rather than preach boycott of the elections as the secessionist group; indigenous people of Biafra(IPOB), he rather urged all Igbos to go out enmasse and show their displeasure by voting against the Buhari government.

Earlier, the senatorial candidate of the party Ezekwelu urged the people of the zone to shun old politicians who have perpetually failed them.

Ezekwelu who was also a founding member of APGA said he left the party for ADC, when its leaders started nursing the idea of adopting Buhari, who he said was not popular among the people of Anambra State.
