Elekenews.com gathered that a house belonging to a PDP
stalwart, Hon Gabriel Onyenwife, the member representing Oyi/Ayamelum
federal constituency in the house of representatives was first set on
fire last weekend, where two of his branded vehicles and 30 motorcycles
was burnt down.
Similarly, Another PDP politician, Hon Chris Azubogu’s
supporters who drove two of his branded vehicles were said to have been
attacked on Wednesday, and the vehicles set ablaze in Nnewi town, Nnewi
North local government Area of the state.
The Director General of the PDP Presidential Campaign
Council, Prince Harry Oranezi who disclosed this to journalists in Awka
said the party was worried about the spate of attacks on its members.
Oranezi said he was not surprised because the PDP in the
state was growing in leaps and bound, just as lots of people now reckon
with her, leaving other parties in envy.
He lamented that attacks on the party was coming from two
directions, which he named to be the ruling party in the state, the All
Progressives Grand Alliance(APGA) and the ruling party at the centre,
the All Progressives Congress(APC).
He said, “PDP is now being persecuted from all front, both
by the state government in Anambra and the federal government. Last
week, one of our member, Hon Gabriel Onyenwife,a member of the house of
representatives, who left APGA to join the PDP after their rancorous
primary election had his house set on fire, and his vehicles and
motorcycles which were empowerment materials meant for his constituents
were burnt.
“Again, yesterday(Wednesday) Hon Azubogu, the member
representing Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo federal constituency
had a painful experience. His vehicles were also burnt down. This is
because of the popularity of PDP in Anambra State.”
Asked who the party suspects, Oranezi said the Anambra
State governor, Willie Obiano was its prime suspect. He said the
governor had severally pressured Onyenwife who left APGA for PDP to
return to the party, but he(Onyenwife) refused.
“This is to the point that Obiano has severally mentioned
his name at their rallies, showing that they are rattled by the exit of
the honourable member from their party. We condemn this act in
totality,” Oranezi said.
He said that actions like this can jeopardize the
credibility of this Saturdays election, while also calling on INEC to
ensure the conduct of free and fair election.
